Faith Formation

At the Centro we know that along with tending to basic quality of life needs, we are also called to tend to the hearts and spirits of a community that knows a lot about suffering.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
—This Montessori-based, faith formation program is offered at 11 a.m. each Sunday during the school year. For children ages 3-8, the Catechesis allows them to explore and deepen their relationship with God through presentations and individual work related to Scripture and the Sacraments. It is also the program of preparation for First Holy Communion.

Dia de los Muertos—Especially since so many of us never get to return to our homelands, we hold very dear the memory of those we loved who have died. We celebrate the Día de los Muertos in the Mexican tradition on November 2.

Serenata a la Guadalupana—Our Lady of Guadalupe is a symbol of strength and the indigenous expression of faith that our forebears left to us a legacy. On December 12, we celebrate her feast day with a Mariachi serenade, Eucharist and festive meal.

Desayuno del Jornalero—on Christmas Day, el Centro celebrates a Eucharist and breakfast in the parking lot of Villas Restaurant, close to our campus on 441. We demonstrate our solidarity with day laborers all over Central and South America sharing this morning with them and striving to offer hospitality in a place that is especially close to God’s heart.
