Newcomers Reception with the Rector
All NEWCOMERS are invited to attend our Reception with the Rector on Sunday, August 21, in the River Room. This invitation extends to newcomers to both services.
We promise an informal and casual environment of good conversation, fellowship and laughter.
Come, meet our clergy. Ask all the questions you have of the people that have the answers…well, most of the answers. We’ll also have a couple of representatives from the Vestry and Welcome Ministry on hand. We’re all different but you’ll be amazed at how much at how much we have in common.
Sunday, August 21, 12 to 2 p.m. in the River Room, adjacent to the kitchen, on the New River side. Refreshments will be served.
We offer our hand to you, please come and take it.
Questions, comments, please contact Liz Hallford Ward.

What's up next for our new Deacon?
My first official “act” as a Deacon is to honor my former Rector, George Young III, to be consecrated as the new Bishop of the Diocese of  E. TN. Thirty years ago I entered the “service” by enlisting in the USAF and became a “Cold War Warrior.” Today I am a servant to God and the Bishop. I am to bring the news to you of the poor—record numbers—the disenfranchised—and of a generation dying in our three front wars.  While it seems to be an unprecedented hopeless period, I can tell you that the Good News is alive and well and there is a great hunger for God. Our economic malaise may have taught us all that there is more to life than what our culture is pitching. While I’ve almost completed the estimated 167 steps to become an Episcopal Priest; I have a few more as a Deacon. I will be interning at St. Mary Magdalene this summer to polish clergy relations with diocese among other requirements. I am completing a summer extension course on Anglican History and have a summer book list. I serve the Bishop who wanted me to journey with him to Cuba this November but I was already booked for my St. George’s College scholarship in Jerusalem. I meet at least one more time this fall with the Commission on Ministry and the Standing Committee in order to proceed to the next Priestly step at which time I am blessed to celebrate the sacraments. I believe my calling is to be a Priest in this diocese and I ask your prayers for a position. I am scheduled to preach at ASEC on July 3rd. I want to share that I felt the Holy Spirit and your love and support at my ordination. I am humbled.--Deacon Todd

Intercession Food Pantry
On behalf of the hungry poor in our community, The Food Pantry thanks ASEC for its support. Each distribution has included canned fruit, canned vegetables, soups and other staples. The Pantry currently needs canned fruits and soups. The regular sources for these items are not offering such now for purchase. If you can help and bring some canned fruits and soups, the food bags will  still be able to contain as balanced a diet as possible. The Pantry distributes food twice each month. Please  mark your donation with the words “Food Pantry.”

Men’s clothing needed
St. Laurence Chapel has need for men’s clothing. Specifically, they need new socks and underwear, and new or gently used casual summertime wear such as khaki shorts, t-shirts, jeans, and men’s athletic shoes. They do not need suits, sweaters, or things that homeless men aren’t likely to wear. Please leave donations in the Outreach Box in the narthex/lobby marked for St. Laurence Chapel.

Families feel warmth from volunteers
There are families in our county that have encountered issues in their lives which have left them without a place to live. Sometimes over 200 families a week find themselves in this situation. Hope of South Florida coordinates a faith based community shelter program in Broward County, which All Saints refers to as “Beds Around the Altar.”
A HUGE THANK YOU goes out to the following volunteers who gave their time and talent during the week of June 13 - 18 to help out two mothers in this situation with two children each–ages 1 ,2, 4, and 5: Terry Thompson, Jeffrey Miller, Connie and Peter Commette, Monica and Victor Ramirez provided evening meals. Hunter Ruffin, Kim Su, Bill Nicholson and Doug Lorance, Connie and Peter Commette and Odalys Delgado were the nighttime chaperone/hosts. Our guests were extremely appreciative for our participation in this worthy outreach ministry. Both families were placed into a community shelter program by the end of the week. Please mark your calendar and sign up for the next “Beds Around the Altar” opportunity on September 12 - 17, 2011.

Help our Planet: Electronics Recycling Program
Not sure what to do with all those old laptops, cell phones, ipods, video game consoles, and printer cartridges? Want a simple way to be a good steward of this planet while at the same time help raise money for your church programs? Our youth is partnering with an organization to help us do just that. We are collecting your trash and turning it into money for our youth and family ministry programs.

When people think about recycling, they usually think of paper, glass and cans. However, e-waste — which includes printer cartridges for inkjet, laser, fax, copier and multi-functional peripherals (MFPs or all-in-ones), cell phones, laptops, GPS devices, ipods and MP3 players, digital cameras, game systems, video games and DVDs — is having a larger and larger negative impact on our planet.  Improper disposal of e-waste harms our environment by damaging air, soil and water, and takes up ever-increasing space in our landfills. Now you can do something about it!!

All Saints Altar Guild is looking for new members
Those who have ever served on the altar guild know what a special experience it can be. We are looking for new members, men and women. The time commitment is one Sunday morning a month, arriving 45 minutes before the service to set up, and remaining about a half hour after the service to tidy up. Additionally, you would need to spend an hour or so sometime between the Wednesday noon Eucharist and the Saturday evening Eucharist to do some set up/prep work. You choose which Sunday each month (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) and which service, 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Contact Connie Slater for more information, or the Parish Office at 954-467-6496 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
