The holiday excitement is already in the air at the Centro!
On Saturday, we served a Thanksgiving meal that was “finger-licking yummy”—Jack Landers and Jack Gillis very kindly contributed delicious sweet potato side dishes. Jim Demarest, Todd Hoover and Tom Uskali each baked a turkey for us (and talk about diversity in flavor!!! Who knew there were so many delicious ways of roasting a bird?? And Tom also brought a spinach dish that put a big smile on the faces of our Mexican brothers and sisters who were delighted to discover that it was made with Jalapeño cheese.
We are in a “liturgical transition” time. After three years celebrating the Eucharist at 7:30 on Saturday evenings, we have found that our growing congregation is better served with a Sunday Eucharist instead. So last Sunday we offered our first Sunday service at 11:30 a.m. We will continue to offer the 7:30 service on Saturdays through the end of the year.
The next few weeks will be very, very busy for us and we want to extend a warm invitation to all of you to come join us for our festivities. Here is our calendar of events
Saturday, December 12, at 7 p.m.: Our Lady of Guadalupe—Mariachi procession and serenade on Davie Blvd, followed by Eucharist and then a meal of tamales and hot chocolate.
Wednesday, December, 16 at 3 p.m.: Christmas party for the children of the Centro
Monday, December 21, at 7 p.m.: Novena de Aguinaldos. In many places in Latin America, the nine evenings before Christmas are a time when friends and family gather for prayer, singing and fellowship. It is a lovely tradition that helps us slow down and remember who we are waiting for and what the season is about.
We hope you will come and enjoy this time with us…
