dunk.jpgParish Picnic/Fun Day at All Saints
Save the date!! September 12 from 12 to 2:30 p.m. we are having a parish picnic/fun day. Dress down for Church and bring a change of clothes. Men come in your craziest hawaiian shirt and women wear your craziest hat. Flip-flops are a must. Be prepared to get wet and have fun. Take your turn at dunking your clergy in the dunking tank or watching the children bounce till they drop.
Hotdogs, hamburger, and buns will be provided but please bring a picnic friendly dessert or salad platter. Help kick off the start of our Sunday school program with lots of fun and fellowship. Hope to see you there. Back up date in case of rain or hurricane will be September 19.

Beds Around the Altar
bedaroundaltar.jpgThere are families in our county that have encountered issues in their lives which have left them without a place to live. Sometimes over 200 families a week find themselves in this situation. The Shepherd’s Way coordinates a Community Based Shelter program in Broward County, which All Saints calls “Beds Around the Altar.”  During the week, volunteer individuals or families prepare a meal and visit with the families each night. Other volunteers help with homework, read, play with the children and two chaperones spend the night to provide a reassuring and safe environment. These two volunteer opportunities are critical in helping the families be able to cope with each new day. It is comforting to them knowing there is loving support for them from a community in Christ.

The next week that we will be hosting this wonderful opportunity of Christian outreach is the week of September 13. We are coordinating volunteers to bring evening meals and chaperones to be on-site overnight with the families. Each evening during September 13 - 17, we need an individual or group to feed the families about 5:30 p.m. and for two adults or a family to chaperone from about 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. in the church sanctuary. For more info or to volunteer for this wonderful opportunity of giving, contact Jeff Miller.

Help our Planet: Electronics Recycling Program
Not sure what to do with all those old laptops, cell phones, ipods, video game consoles, and printer cartridges? Want a simple way to be a good steward of this planet while at the same time help raise money for your church programs? Starting in September we will be collecting your trash and turning it into money for our youth and family ministry programs.
Our youth is partnering with an organization to help us do just that. When people think about recycling, they usually think of paper, glass and cans. However, e-waste — which includes printer cartridges for inkjet, laser, fax, copier and multi-functional peripherals (MFPs or all-in-ones), cell phones, laptops, GPS devices, ipods and MP3 players, digital cameras, game systems, video games and DVDs — is having a larger and larger negative impact on our planet.  Improper disposal of e-waste harms our environment by damaging air, soil and water, and takes up ever-increasing space in our landfills. Now you can do something about it!!

New Sunday School Schedule and Curriculum to start
Starting on Sunday September 12th we will begin our Sunday school year.  The curriculum chosen is called Living Inside Out, which includes a themed adventure every month.  Group's Living Inside Out™ Sunday school curriculum combines jump-and-shout large group energy with no-barriers small group relationship-building that challenge kids to live out their faith everyday, everywhere... in front of everyone!  Through creative learning and fun we will engage with your child in the message of the Bible.  Our first module for the month of September will focus on how we share our faith with each other through an adventure called Schooner Island.

We have made changes to our schedule to allow our children to experience both Sunday school and worship opportunities. Whether you child wishes to sit beside you during worship or participate in the liturgy as an acolyte or reader - the new schedule should accommodate that.  See schedule below.

9:15 - 9:30 - Gathering time in the class

9:30 - 10:15 - Sunday school lesson

10:30 -11:30  - Holy Eucharist - note that at the Gospel hymn the children are invited to follow a small cross into Neaverson Chapel to attend a child friendly sermon led by one of our clergy.  The children will be brought back into the service at the peace to join their families for the Eucharist.

Join the fun: Neighborhood Dinners
We are starting up the neighborhood dinners again. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together for a potluck dinner at a parishoner’s house (generally try to alternate between north, south, central Broward) and enjoy each others company.  Individuals can volunteer their space, All Saints takes care of everything else (plates, cups, etc.) and attendees bring food and spirits. If you are interested in volunteering your house please contact Odalys Delgado. Thanks”

Hurricane Survival Box raffle boosts TRUE Fund
We, Bill Nicholson and Doug Lorance, Matt Matejcic, and Dan Dailey are new members of All Saints Episcopal Church. After the 8 a.m. service, we were having coffee in the chapel and the topic of T.R.U.E. fund came up.  Phyllis Barnes explained how the T.R.U.E. (Toward Relief of Urgent Emergencies) serves the community. She informed us that the fund, however, was out of money,

hurricanebox.jpgOur rector, Sherod, told us All Saints has never denied a request. Social workers call on All Saints for a request of $100.00 or less for needs of less fortunate people, who are trying to makes ends meet but need help. Funds go directly to the source; for example, CVS for prescriptions for a sick child, mechanics for brakes that need to be repaired to get to a job or FP & L for an electric bill that will prevent electricity from being turned off while caring for handicapped or elderly relatives at their home. This touched our hearts in such a way that we knew we had to help.
That evening the four of us decided we would put together the HURRICANE SURVIVAL BOX, a $400.00 value, and sell $5.00 tickets for a raffle and donate the money to the T.R.U.E. fund. With the help of Bill Peters, a Vestry member and neighbor, we came up with “Friends of the T.R.U.E. Fund.” Now the fun began. We put together things we needed during Hurricane Wilma when we lost power for 14 days:
-         1 Battery operated 10” fan (with batteries)
-         2 Butane portable stoves (with butane)
-         1 Battery operated lantern (with batteries)
-         2 Solar showers (when warm water was a dream)
-         3 Flashlights (with batteries)
-         1 Power failure night light
-         1 Corded phone ( cordless phones do not work without power)
-         1 Can of Fix- A- Flat
-         1 Ice chest (48 gallons for use and a good basket to hold everything)

Needing only a name and phone number, we printed tickets on card stock. With the help of our new family at the 8 a..m. service we sold 226 tickets for a total of $1,130.00. On August 22, 2010 Maria Mallow drew the winning ticket and the winner, Harvey Mattell, from Hollywood, Fl, was announced. babies.jpgBaby supplies to be collected by Episcopal Church Women
In October, the All Saints Episcopal Church Women will be participating in the Bassinet Program led by Church Women United of Greater Fort Lauderdale, the local chapter of the national volunteer organization that brings together Christian women of diverse races, cultures and traditions for fellowship, prayer, advocacy, and action for peace with justice.

A bassinet will be in our Narthex during the month to collect donations of baby items. We are asking for diapers, sleepers (newborn-5 years), blankets, wipes, baby food, toys, stuffed animals and any other small items that can be used for babies. At the end of the month, the bassinet will be taken to Family Central (www.familycentral.org), a local organization whose mission is to promote children by providing for family support. . The donated items will be distributed to needy families in Fort Lauderdale.

Several churches in the Ft. Lauderdale area participate in the bassinet program throughout the year. The Episcopal Church Women of All Saints is proud to be a part of this program and hope you can join us in helping families in need.

All Saints Altar Guild is looking for new members
Those who have ever served on the altar guild know what a special experience it can be. We are looking for new members, men and women. The time commitment is one Sunday morning a month, arriving 45 minutes before the service to set up, and remaining about a half hour after the service to tidy up. Additionally, you would need to spend an hour or so sometime between the Wednesday noon Eucharist and the Saturday evening Eucharist to do some set up/prep work. You choose which Sunday each month (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) and which service, 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Contact Connie Slater for more information, or the Parish Office at 954-467-6496 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. All Saints ADULT FORUM: Living the Questions; An Introduction to Progressive Christianity
Every Sunday, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in the River Room, the Rector leads the Adult Forum in a teaching series that introduces a progressive approach to understanding the Story of Salvation as contained in Holy Scripture. Progressive thought in regard to our faith is an exciting and liberating experience for many. “Living the Questions” is thought provoking and challenging as it calls us to truly live in our lives what we so freely proclaim with our lips. Everyone is invited to attend.
